1940 Born in Hyogo Prefecture.
1964 Graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
1966 Received Masters from The Graduate School of Fine Arts Graduate School.
From 1969 to 1966 , he worked at Angelo Mangiarotti architectural firm in Milan . Established Kawakami design room in 1971.
As day-to-day work , he has worked on craft work , product design , furniture , space , and environmental design. In addition, he has also engaged in the development of human resources and the local industry.
He has served as a visiting professor at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Tama Art University and Kanazawa College of Art in Kobe.
He has won several awards including the winning Society of Civil Engineers Award Tanaka, Yokohama cityscape landscape Award, Good Design Gold Award, IF Award and the Mainichi Design Award and Kunii Kitaro crafts industry Award in Tsurumitsubasabashi.
